PAST :
Misao's father was the Okashira (the leader, so to speak) of the Oniwabanshu, and died when she was still young. She was raised by the Oniwabanshu (made up of mainly men) which partially explains her tomboyish attitude. Raised in the ways of fightings, she developed a slight "puppy love" for Aoshi Shinomori, who was now the leader of the Oniwabanshu. She gains all of her fighting techiniques from the key leaders of the Oniwabanshu, becoming the strong fighter she is today. When Aoshi and most of the important Oniwabanshu members (Hanya, Beshimi, Hyottoko, and Shikijou) break off as the Tokyo section of the Oniwabanshu, and leave on a dangerous mission, they have to leave Misao with the others, because she was still a little girl at the time. Misao, who was in love with Aoshi, couldn't stand the thought of him leaving, so she set out searching for him all over the world. Unfortunately, all of the Onibanwashu that went with him, died protecting Aoshi. And take a wild guess who Aoshi partially blames for this misfortune.


Yup. Kenshin.


Aoshi ventures back to Kyoto looking for Kenshin with a lust to avenge his fallen comrades-- to lay the title of "strongest" on his grave in their honor. However, Okina, the one who had passed along the leadership to Aoshi, tries to tell him that vengance isn't the answer. At this point, Aoshi is burning with insane passion to kill Himura Kenshin. Since Okina did pass down the leadershiper, he feels that it is his duty to prevent Aoshi from doing something even more evil.


Misao has discovered that Aoshi's return to Kyoto. Setting out to prevent the two men from fighting, she could only hope she would make it in time. The poor girl runs, and runs as fast as her little legs would take her, but... she doesn't make it. She arrives a few moments too late, just as Okina was almost at point of death. Misao, unable to do anything but stare at Okina's almost lifeless body, she looked to the man she loved: Aoshi. Turning away from her, he tells her not to look at him.

He never wanted to see her again.
